About Us

California hunting attorney
Wesley T. Green, JD MBA
CA Bar No. 201107

Legal Labrador is founded by its president, Wesley Green, who is constantly frustrated by the difficulty of locating all relevant hunting laws and procedures. “Legal Labrador” combines his expertise as a lawyer and love for hunting with his Labrador retriever.

The primary goal of Legal Labrador is to take the guesswork out of hunting laws by locating and summarizing hunting rules, regulations, and procedures in a hunter-friendly format.  You’ll arm yourself with confidence by following links to supporting law and reading our “Warning shots!!!” like the one below.

Legal Labrador serves as a virtual hunting guide by identifying public and private hunting opportunities.  Legal Labrador also provides practical hunting tools like custom maps, hunting calendars, driving directions, blogs, and special hunts for young hunters, as well as ladies, military veterans, and those with disabilities.  Finally, Legal Labrador advocates for hunting rights and provides legal support to hunters charged with potential hunting violations.

Warning shot!!!  The information provided by Legal Labrador is for general information purposes only.  Nothing on these or any associated pages, documents, comments, answers, emails, or other communications should be taken as legal advice for any individual case or situation.  The information is not intended to create, and receipt or viewing of this information does not constitute, an attorney-client relationship.  Potential clients should refer to our “Attorney” page.

    1. If you’re looking for upland game hunting on public land, select the species from our Upland & Small Game menu, https://legallabrador.org/california-upland-game-bird-hunting/. After you select a species, click “Hunting Areas” from the list of Topics. The species page has general State hunting rules and the public land page has local restrictions.

You can also use our map of public places to hunt in Northern California, including the Truckee Wildlife Area, https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1VvRcnbDlZb0Go4Vb4K1YWDx9TO4. In each marker, we have a link to our page with local restrictions.

If you’re looking for private hunts, one good source is through the CDFW’s SHARE program, https://legallabrador.org/california-share-hunting-program/. We’re in the process of adding more private clubs and guides to our Private Land menu, so check back in the near future.

Once you find a particular location, feel free to ask me some more questions. Good luck, Jason.

  1. Greetings,
I’m a student at California State University, Chico. With a few other students, I’m working on a class project and would like to use one of your deer images from this website in a short video only intended to earn us a grade. It’s been difficult finding a good picture of a deer for this! We would appreciate your permission to use the image and would give you credit for the image at the end of our video, of course.
